• Silicone

A synthetic polymer often used as a spreader or surfactant. It helps break surface tension in foliar sprays, improving pesticide and nutrient coverage. It is not plant nutrition.

• Silica (Silicon Dioxide – SiO₂)

The compound that makes up sand and glass. While abundant in soils, silica is not readily available for plant uptake.

• Silicates

Mineral compounds that can serve as source materials for plant-available silicon fertilizers. Some silicates are also used in pest control and may function similarly to diatomaceous earth (a silica-rich sedimentary rock).


If Silicon Is So Abundant in Soil, Why Supplement It?

Silicon compounds make up approximately 25–30% of most soils. Sand is primarily silica, and clay contains aluminum phyllosilicate minerals.

However, abundance does not equal availability.

In most soils, silicon is:

  • Locked within silica compounds

  • Bound tightly in clay particles
