Cinnerate® for Powdery Mildew Control

Cinnerate® for Powdery Mildew Control

Powdery mildew is one of the most common and frustrating plant diseases growers face. Tender new leaves in spring and late-season crops in fall are especially vulnerable—but with the right tools, you can stay ahead of it. One of the most effective organic options available is Cinnerate®, a botanical-based miticide, fungicide, and insecticide.

How to Use Cinnerate® for Powdery Mildew

  • Mixing rate: 0.32 oz per gallon (or 1 oz in a 3-gallon backpack sprayer).

  • Frequency: Apply 1–2 times per week as part of a regular program.

  • Coverage: Be sure to spray both the tops and undersides of leaves. For the best results, use a mist blower or fogger, which provides better airflow and coverage than a standard backpack sprayer.

  • Timing: Spray in the early morning or evening, avoiding the midday sun to reduce the risk of leaf burn.

⚠️ Important note for cannabis growers: In greenhouse environments, Cinnerate® may leave a cinnamon-like flavor if used during bloom. Always use caution and follow the product label closely.

Why Timing Matters

  • Spring: At budbreak, fresh leaves are highly susceptible to powdery mildew. Treating early helps protect tender new growth.

  • Summer: Many strains of powdery mildew slow down in hot weather (above 80–85°F). Infections may pause during midsummer heat.

  • Late Summer & Fall: As temperatures cool and precipitation becomes more common, mildew often reappears, threatening annual crops. This is when Cinnerate® becomes especially valuable.

Beyond Mildew: A Two-in-One Solution

Cinnerate® doesn’t just stop powdery mildew. It also helps control:

  • Downy mildew

  • Botrytis (gray mold)

  • Aphids, mites, and other soft-bodied insects

This makes it an excellent addition to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, working alongside beneficial insects for a balanced, organic approach.

Pollinator Safety

While you should avoid spraying bees directly, Cinnerate® is safe to use on flowering plants with minimal impact on pollinators. For best practice, spray early in the morning before bees are active, or in the evening once they’ve returned to their hives.

A Few Extra Tips

  • The product label allows use rates up to 0.5%. However, some crops—particularly tomatoes and potatoes—may show slight leaf burn at higher concentrations. Start lower and adjust carefully.

  • Consistency is key. Repeated applications are necessary to break mildew cycles and protect new plant growth.

🌱 Bottom line: Cinnerate® is a versatile, organic solution that helps protect crops from both fungal diseases and insect pests. Used as part of a well-rounded management plan, it’s a powerful ally for farmers and gardeners looking to grow healthy, resilient plants.
